Green Minds is a community ecotherapy service based at Brecon & District Mind. In 2019 we received funding from the Powys Regional Partnership Board's Social Value Development Fund, administered by Pavo. The funding received enabled us to begin to develop our project so that through an ecotherapy approach, and by harnessing the healing effects of nature we could help to combat the social isolation within our community, and improve the health and wellbeing of those needing support through nature-based initiatives and interventions.

In June 2020 we received support from the Sustainable Development Fund – Brecon Beacons National Park which has enabled us to continue to support our members and develop our community ecotherapy service.

OUR VISION
Is of a sustainable, socially inclusive and compassionate community that enables people to develop positive mental health and wellbeing.

OUR PURPOSE
Is to meet the needs and ambitions of people struggling with mental health challenges, to empower our group members in making choices and changes that will improve their emotional and physical wellbeing.

OUR MISSION
Is to create a community where mental health is seen as being an integral part of being human.

WHAT IS ECOTHERAPY?
Ecotherapy is a name given to a wide range of outdoor nature based activities aiming to improve physical and mental wellbeing. Connecting with nature has lots of positive health benefits and can take place in both rural and urban settings, including parks, gardens and woodlands.

Depending on the type of programme and time of year, ecotherapy can include activities that focus on:

- Experiencing Nature through walking, mindfulness, enjoying views and connecting to outdoor spaces

- Working in Nature such as gardening, conservation work or helping nature within the local community

- Nature Arts & Crafts using the environment as inspiration for creating art, learning traditional craft skills
   and working with natural materials
